A
DOCUMENT OF RECONCILIATION:
Two
parallel studies of attitudes among Indigenous
and non-Indigenous Australians 1999-2000
These
two qualitative studies examined the attitudes
of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians
to the Draft Document for Reconciliation
prepared by the Council for Aboriginal
Reconciliation in the lead-up to the Centenary
of Federation in 2001. The first of the
two studies was carried out among non-Indigenous
people. The second study was carried out
among Indigenous people. The second report
contains a short chapter summarising points
of similarity and points of difference
between Indigenous and non-Indigenous
Australians in their attitudes to the
concept of Reconciliation and to the Draft
Document for Reconciliation. A quantitative
survey was also carried out as part of
this research program. This was done by
Newspoll Market Research.
